Our tour takes us southbound with a downhill journey through the ancient bible wilderness, passing the Inn of the Good Samaritan, named after the parable that Jesus told. Our journey continues as we descend towards the “ sea level” point. Anything beyond this point is below sea level. At a distance we can see the biblical and ancient living city of Jericho. This city has been inhabited for 11,000 years and makes it one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. Known by many of how the walls of Jericho fell after Jericho’s Israelite army marched around the city blowing their trumpets (Joshua 6).
At our next destination is an archaeological site at West point, Qumran National Park. Here on this dry plateau we see the caves where the scrolls were discovered kept in good condition for 2,000 years thanks to the low humidity of the Dead Sea area. The scrolls refer to the ancient Essenes and has the oldest copy of the First Testament. Most of the Dead Sea Scrolls are kept at two sites in Israel. One is the Rockefeller Museum in East Jerusalem, and the other at the Israel Museum in West Jerusalem.
From here onward we take a 4×4 jeep most suitable for the rough terrain of the desert. A roller coaster ride through the desert up and down the rough inclines and ravines over sand and rock. At the end of of this exhilarating journey we arrive at the Cliffs of Dragot onto the Murbaat Caves.
Due to exploration in the 50s artifacts from the Chalcolithic and bronze era were discovered. Documents giving details of the second Jewish revolt from 132AD to 135AD were also found. One of the texts was written by the Reverend Rabbi Shimon Bar Kochba who led the second Jewish revolt.
Our adventurous journey ends with a dip in the Dead Sea, washing away the desert sand and relaxing in the saline waters of the Dead Sea, and spend time covering our bodies with the mineral rich qualities of the Dead Sea’s black mud.

The Dead Sea is a natural wonder and has many therapeutic qualities but it also can be dangerous. For preserving your safety and wellbeing we recommend you read following instructions carefully:
1. When entering the sea it is recommended to do as very slowly as the ground mud is very slippery and one tends to sink in .Be cautious not to splash when swimming as the sea is highly salty. If the water gets in your eyes, get out carefully and wash your eyes with fresh water as soon as you can.
2. Do not swallow the water.
3. It is recommended to be in the water no longer than 20 minutes; the same can be said about the Mud. (You can smear the mineral rich mud from the sea ground all over your body, including your face).Once it dries, wash it off thoroughly.
4. Thereafter proceed to wash yourself in the fresh water showers nearby off the shore.
5. Regarding jewelries or any precious item (watches pendants earrings etc) – if you are not sure your jewelry is pure gold, it is recommended to remove it before entering the water as the High salt content can ruin other metals and fine mechanisms.
6. The shore we visit is well facilitated with Hot & Cold showers, safety lockers (for a deposit) and changing rooms. As well as life guard presence and first aid.
7. You should not go barefooted at all times: Sandals or thongs are required, the sand/ ground surface is extremely hot especially in the summer season, and there is considerable walking until the shore edge.
8. June-September, extreme temperature (above 40 Celsius), take precautions accordingly (hat, sunscreen, water).
