Mount Meron Access Restricted – Travel Update for Visitors
Planning to visit Mount Meron during your Israel trip? Here’s what you need to know about current access restrictions.
Israeli police are currently blocking vehicle and pedestrian access to the Mount Meron area following directives from the Home Front Command. The annual Lag B’Omer celebrations at the tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai have been cancelled, and authorities prevented hundreds of buses and thousands of visitors from reaching the site.
Mount Meron, located in northern Israel’s Galilee region, is one of Judaism’s holiest sites and typically attracts massive crowds, especially during religious holidays. The restrictions are in place for safety reasons following guidance from security officials.
If you’re planning to visit religious sites in the Galilee during your Israel tour, we recommend checking current access status before traveling. Alternative spiritual destinations in the area include the ancient synagogues of Capernaum and the mystical city of Safed (Tzfat), both easily accessible and rich in Jewish history and culture.
Stay flexible with your itinerary and consider booking guided tours that can adapt to changing site availability.
