Light Rail Changes: What Travelers Need to Know

December 23, 2025

Heads up if you’re planning to use Israel’s light rail system during your visit! The R2 line is currently operating with temporary route changes due to local demonstrations.

Right now, the R2 light rail only runs between Kiryat Arye in Petah Tikva and Komemiyut Station in Bat Yam. This means several Petah Tikva stations aren’t being served until further notice.

If you were planning to explore Petah Tikva or use the light rail to get there, you’ll need alternative transportation for now. Consider using buses, taxis, or ride-sharing apps to reach your destination. The good news is that Israel’s public bus network is extensive and reliable.

We’ll keep you updated as service returns to normal. In the meantime, if you’re staying in Tel Aviv or Bat Yam, the southern portion of the R2 line is still running smoothly. For real-time updates on public transportation, download the Moovit app – it’s incredibly helpful for navigating Israel’s transit system and works in English.
